Pan's Labyrinth Reflection

What are the conventions of a Hollywood film? How is this one similar/ different.
The lighting in Hollywood films tend to be unobtrusive, and or not to attract attention. This is similar to Pan's Labyrinth because the lighting throughout the film was dark and or eery. As well in Hollywood films the protagonist tend to be clearly defined. This also relates to Pan's Labyrinth because Ofelia is clearly the protagonist and her character and characteristic values are clearly defined.
Discuss the concepts of “control,” “rebellion,” and “choice,” and see how it links characters?
The concept of control relates to the character Captain Vidal and how he is very controlling of his troops as well as controlling to what Ofelia and her mother do. The concept of rebellion is very clearly shown in Ofelia's character because she tends not to listen to the adults. The adults try to tell her that magic is not real, but Ofelia denies this. Especially when it comes to Captain Vidal, she tries to steer clear of him, as well as disobey him. I feel as though that the concept of choice belongs to Ofelia's mother. Ofelia's mother during the film is pregnant with the son of Captain Vidal. It is very clear that the baby is making her sick, and that delivering the baby may result in death. This does not stop Ofelia's mother and she makes the choice to continue fighting for her as well as her sons life. Sadly this does result in the death of Ofelia's mother leaving Ofelia to Captain Vidal.
