hugo reflection questions

In Hugo, Georges Méliès, who does not want to remember the part of
his life where he created fantastic and magical worlds through
films, states, “My life has taught me one lesson, Hugo Cabret, and
not the one I thought it would. Happy endings only happen in the
movies.”
 Why does Méliès say this?:
Because, he himself believes that in film you make the story and choose the ending, for it is in film where we all see the protagonist have a happy fairytale ending. After he was forced into bankruptcy after the war there seemed to be no longer a happy ending to the story, this is why he chooses to view things as such.
 Why does he want to forget about the films he made?:
He wants to put his past behind him and try to live in a fantasy world where theres always a happy ending. Rather than live life with the reminder of how life took a turn for the worse.
 Do you think the film Hugo has a happy ending? Why or why not?:
I would say the film had a rather classic happy ending for our protagonist Hugo. Reason being as Isabelle stated when she begins to write her book about Hugo's story. He found his way home. Everyone in addition to Hugo in the end sequence seems jovial and overall enlightened and they are all having a great time. Most importantly though Hugo made his way all the way home, this gives light to the fact that our character finally found peace with everything and made for his own happy ending. This is in the end like Méliès said, "Happy endings only happen in the movies".
